Interview with Melbourne bridal designer Georgia Young

What sparked your interest in Wedding Gowns?

I was fascinated with Couture from the age of 12 and creating wedding   gowns was the perfect avenue for me. I love the amount of time that is involved and intricate detailing.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your business?

My design style is what sets me apart. When I started out with this business, my designs were much more ‘run of the mill’, except for one gown that I had a little creative fun with. Ironically that gown was by far my most popular style. From that moment I decided to only create gowns that were a direct reflection of me.

What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work?

I have just booked into a Pottery course, does that count as fascinated? I love the idea of shape, movement and texture; something that is embedded in my design style. Hopefully I don’t get carried away and make a clay gown

3 pieces of advice for brides looking for their bridal gown for their special day?

- One of the biggest things I always so to brides is try on everything! Especially the ones you don’t think you will like.
- Your gowns should be a reflection of you in every way, including your style. Don’t be afraid to be different.
- Learn a bit about where your gown comes from, how its made and who makes it. A Couture gown tells a story and everyone that is involved in that gown helps add to that story.

Who Is your dream celebrity client?

I would love to dress Cate Blanchett. She is always so gutsy with what she wears.
